Mega glitch in the live special of “Love is blind”

Netflix had something very special planned for Sunday, April 16, 2023. A special reunion special was to be broadcast live as the first event of its kind. However, a lot went wrong.

The dating show “Love is blind” has now had four seasons on Netflix. That alone speaks for the success of the series. This is probably one of the reasons why the streaming service had planned a live reunion. Due to technical problems, the whole thing became more of an embarrassment for Netflix.

“Love is blind” reunion special cannot take place live

Live events or broadcasts are still quite new for Netflix. It was only this spring that the streaming service’s first live event broadcast on the platform took place, namely a comedy special with Chris Rock. Another live special was now scheduled for mid-April. Actually, the participants of the fourth season of the popular dating show “Love is blind” should meet again live in front of the camera. A format that German television viewers are also familiar with from shows like “The Bachelor”.

The transmission should start at 2 a.m. German time. But then there were apparently technical problems and Netflix also made a few mistakes in communication via social media. The streaming service has now apologized for this.

Netflix apologizes

Anyone who sat ready at the start of the announced live special of “Love is blind” only got to see a generic error message. “Sorry for the interruption. We’re having trouble playing Netflix. Please check your internet connection and try again.” However, the problems had nothing to do with the users’ internet.

Meanwhile, the streaming service comforted fans on the company’s social channels. The show will be worth the wait, it said. After more than an hour, Netflix announced via video of “Too Hot Too Handle” star Chloe Weitch that there would be no more transmission. Instead, the conversation is now being recorded and later made available to everyone on the streaming platform. Netflix also released a statement through its channels in which the provider apologized for what happened to the “Love is blind” special:

In order to interact with or display content from social networks, we need your consent.

The statement read: “To all those who stayed up late, who got up early, gave up their Sunday afternoons… we are so sorry that the Love is blind reunion couldn’t go ahead as we planned.” At least the fans won’t have to wait too long to see the reunion.

Reactions on social media

The technical glitch caused both amusement and displeasure on social media. Many, like the well-known US MP Ocasio-Cortez, seem to see the whole thing with humor:

This is where you will find content from Twitter

In order to interact with or display content from social networks, we need your consent.

There are also many users who are calling for a price drop and who are debating Netflix’s overall value for money.

For Netflix, the event was more of a shot that backfired. This should be particularly annoying because the streaming service wants to develop more clearly in the direction of live programming in the future.
