Iwema drops spot after tough day in Russia

ICE SPEEDWAY – Nikita Bogdanov also dominated day 2 during the Ice Speedway World Championships in Togliatti, Russia. Jasper Iwema had a hard time today and didn’t get further than 12th place.

Yesterday Bogdanov was already the strongest and today he did it thinly. In fact, the Russian even remained undefeated. His compatriots Igor Kononov and Dmitry Khomitsevich came in second and third.

In the standings for the world championship, which consists of four games, Bogdanov is of course in the lead. Iwema is ninth.

Bad conditions

Today’s race was a lot less exciting than yesterday due to the bad weather (there was a lot of snow) and the ice was not in the best condition either. With temperatures just below zero it was difficult to create a good layer of ice.

Heavy hit Ivan Khuzin

In addition, the match was overshadowed by a big bang. Ivan Khuzhin had to be taken to hospital. Khuzhin not only lost a lot of blood, but also his consciousness. The young Russian is currently in hospital and according to the latest reports, his condition is stable.

Also yesterday there was a hard crash. Nikita Toloknov came into contact with Bogdanov and has since undergone surgery.

Little rest for Iwema: a journey of 3300 kilometers ahead

After Jasper Iwema was very satisfied with his result yesterday, today went a lot less. De Drent complained about reduced strength in his arms and more than 12th place was not possible. As a result, the driver from Hooghalen is ninth in the standings for the world championship.

However, Iwema does not have much time to rest. Tomorrow evening he will travel to the next race: the European Championship Ice Speedway (next week) in Sanok, Poland: a trip of about 3300 kilometers.
