The tragedy occurred in the Bergamo mountains, where he had gone pedaling alone

Dario Acquaroli, one of the strongest Italian bikers ever, has died. He was born on March 10, 1975 in San Giovanni Bianco, in the province of Bergamo, and was, as mentioned, one of the strongest Italian mountain bike specialists ever, capable of racing 19 world championships with the Italian national team between cross country and marathon, winning two European titles (1992, 1993) and two world titles (1993, 1996) as well as five Italian titles (1992, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2005).

the tragedy

The tragedy occurred this morning in the Bergamo mountains: Dario was pedaling alone and was expected at his sister’s house to celebrate Easter with his family. He seems to have been found on the ground in a fairly easy stretch, to the point that one thinks more of an illness than a fall. He said of himself: “I reached the highest point of my career in 1996, when at the age of 23 I won my second world championship. It wasn’t an easy moment to manage because I was alone, my father passed away the day before of my debut race, when I was 16, and I never wanted to have a prosecutor next to me”. After his career as an athlete, interrupted in 2008, he became manager of Sintesi Larm. He then put his experience at the service of Vittoria Gomme as ambassador of the brand and therefore of Merida Italia of which he became marketing manager in 2021.
