RB Leipzig wants to extend with Rose: Only FC Bayern & BVB have been better since taking office

New contract awaits

RB Leipzig is already in talks with coach Marco Rose about extending the contract, which runs until 2024. This was confirmed by Managing Director Max Eberl on “ZDF” during the 2-0 victory in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup between the Saxon title holder and Borussia Dortmund. “We want to extend with Marko, that’s clear,” emphasized Eberl. The duo worked together in Mönchengladbach from 2019 to 2021 before the coach moved to Dortmund for a fee in the millions.

On Wednesday evening the result in the duel was almost the same as in Rose’s debut as Leipzig coach on matchday 6 – back then it was 3-0. Since taking office, RB has been the third strongest team in the Bundesliga behind FC Bayern (44 points) and BVB (41) with 40 points. Rose took over the team from his hometown in September 2022 and has since led it back into the top flight.

Most recently, however, Leipzig failed in the round of 16 of the Champions League at co-favorites Manchester City and also suffered 5 defeats against VfL Bochum and Mainz 05. Up to this series of bankruptcies, RB was even the best team in the Bundesliga under Rose – currently the gap to SC Freiburg, which has the toughest remaining program in the league, and the Champions League ranks is two points. On the 31st matchday there will be a direct encounter in Breisgau.
