Radio Drenthe celebrates 49 years of ‘Waterloo’ with a special ABBA day

The name ABBA is an acronym of the band members agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and anni Frid Lyngstad. The band was founded in 1972. A year later, the group participated in the Swedish preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Ring Ringbut then did not win.

The international breakthrough followed in 1974 with Waterloo, which won the Eurovision Song Contest. The band would eventually sell several hundred million records.

ABBA broke up in 1982, but always remained popular. In 2018 it became known that the musicians had recorded new material. The album was released three years later Voyage released. There is also now a concert series with holograms – the so-called ABBArs – on display in London.
