PSV sees duel against Spakenburg as a ‘Champions League match’

Although the poster suggests otherwise, a ‘big game’ is scheduled for Tuesday. PSV will compete in the semi-finals of the cup tournament against the amateurs of SV Spakenburg. There is no question of underestimation according to Van Nistelrooij. “We approach this as a Champions League game.”

The fact that Spakenburg is the opponent makes the poster special on paper. Still, according to Van Nistelrooij, the match is no different than usual. “We approach this match as if it were a Premier League or Champions League match. It is also a big competition, regardless of the entourage.”

The trainer therefore looked sharp at the press conference, sharpness that he also asks from his players. “I expect the same focus on Tuesday as last Saturday. A final is at stake. We know what that can loosen from last year. That was amazing.”

“It’s just a stadium, but a bit smaller.”

The preparation also remained the same as any other competitions. Scouts went to watch Spakenburg matches and there is an impression of what PSV can expect. The environment is also no surprise for the trainer. “It’s not as amateurish as you think. There is just a stadium, only smaller. It is a beautiful setting to make it a beautiful cup evening.”

Regarding the occupation at PSV, Phillipp Mwene is still a doubt. The right back is badly needed as the flush is thin in the back. Olivier Boscagli has only just returned from a serious knee injury, the question is whether he will play ninety minutes on the artificial grass again. These two doubts come on top of the absence of Jarrad Branthwaite and Armando Obispo. Jenson Seelt may therefore make an appearance.
