The way for the start of the 49-euro ticket in the nationwide public transport is clear. After the Bundestag, the Bundesrat also approved a financing law on Friday.
That means: May 1st is the day – the 49-euro ticket is coming!
Anyone who has the Deutschlandticket can use regional trains, buses, subways, etc. nationwide! Everything you need to know about the introduction of the ticket.
► How do I get the 49 euro ticket?
The 49-euro ticket is only available with a subscription. Means: The price for the ticket is debited from the account at the beginning of the month. As a paper ticket, the ticket will only be available on a transitional basis.
Customers can book it online via the Deutsche Bahn website or with their transport company. They then receive it in digital form or as a chip card. The 49-euro ticket is not available from machines, but is available from sales outlets.
As the name says: customers have to pay 49 euros per month for the ticket. But: Some transport companies announced discounts – for students, pupils or civil servants. One thing is certain: the 49 euros is an “introductory price”. From 2024, the ticket could become more expensive. The federal government calls this “dynamisation in the form of automatic inflation compensation”.
► When is the Deutschlandticket valid?
The 49-euro ticket is valid from May 1st. You can buy the ticket earlier: from April 3rd. Pre-ordering is already possible via the Deutschlandticket app or the regional transport companies. The ticket can be canceled monthly.
► Who is the ticket for?
The 49-euro ticket is particularly worthwhile for commuters and frequent travelers. Because the ticket is usually cheaper than a regular monthly pass.
An example: A monthly ticket for the entire Berlin/Brandenburg transport association costs 178 euros. The 49-euro ticket results in savings of 129 euros per month! However, if you rarely travel by train or travel long distances, you should think twice before buying one.
► What to pay attention to?
ICE, IC and EC may NOT be used with a 49-euro ticket, nor may the ferries to the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea islands. The ticket is non-transferrable and, as a rule, you are not allowed to take a bicycle or a dog with you.
Anyone who no longer wants to use the 49-euro ticket must cancel their subscription. Otherwise the amount will continue to be debited from the account.
► What applies to a monthly ticket or job ticket?
Monthly or annual ticket subscribers have the opportunity to rebook to the 49-euro ticket. This runs through the regional transport companies. The transport companies will contact existing customers and point out the possibility of switching to the 49-euro ticket. If you don’t want that, you can keep your existing ticket.
Employers have the option of providing their employees with the 49-euro ticket as a job ticket. This makes the ticket cheaper. If employers grant a deduction of at least 25 percent, the federal and state governments add another deduction of five percent. Means: The ticket can cost 30 percent less, i.e. 34.30 euros per month.
