The Slovenian Timi Zajc celebrated an acclaimed home win at the end of the longest ski jumping season in history.
The world champion won the flying in Planica in front of 30,000 fans with distances of 232.5 and 234.0 m with a tiny 0.1 point ahead of his teammate Anze Lanisek. DSV eagles Andreas Wellinger and Markus Eisenbichler finished ninth and eleventh for a conciliatory end to the season.
For the third time in his career, the Austrian Stefan Kraft got the little crystal ball for the best pilot of the season. One day after his fifth win of the season, a third place was enough for the experienced driver to push Halvor Egner Granerud (13th) from the top. The Norwegian was already the winner of the big ball for the overall World Cup before the weekend.
As on Saturday, the other DSV eagles had nothing to do with the top positions. Constantin Schmid (22nd), the former ski flying world champion Karl Geiger (23rd) and Pius Paschke (27th) were clearly behind.
For the German ski jumpers, the weakest World Cup season in eleven years ended with only two wins and eight podium finishes. The German team last had fewer wins in 2011/12 (1), fewer podium places even in 2010/11 (6). Fifth place in the national ranking also means the worst position in 15 years.
