Ralf Kellermann and Bundesliga soccer club VfL Wolfsburg are continuing their long-standing collaboration. The 54-year-old sporting director signed a new contract until 2026 and will in future bear the title of director of women’s football.

“The way in which the team has made a name for itself not only nationally but also in Europe deserves respect and is largely thanks to Ralf Kellermann,” explained VfL Managing Director Marcel Schäfer.

The Wolfsburg women have played for titles every season, “and I am convinced that the coaching team around Tommy Stroot, the players and everyone around the team will do their best to be as successful as possible in the current season,” added Schäfer .

In the Bundesliga, the “wolves” are second, one point behind FC Bayern, they are also in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup and this evening they are about to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

At VfL for 15 years

Kellermann, who played eleven second division games for FSV Frankfurt and MSV Duisburg as a goalkeeper, took over as head coach of the VfL women in the summer of 2008. In 2013 he won the triple of Champions League, German championship and cup victory with the team. The following year, the second Champions League victory. In total, Kellermann won nine trophies with VfL.

In 2017, the FIFA world coach from 2014 resigned and from then on managed the fortunes of Wolfsburg women’s football as sporting director. During this time there have been four double wins and the DFB Cup win in 2021. “We will continue to pursue our ambitious sporting goals together as a team and also continue to optimize the professional conditions in order to further develop women’s football in Wolfsburg overall,” announced Kellermann.
