Lana Del Rey’s new album DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A TUNNEL UNDER OCEAN BLVD took the number one spot on Wednesday’s (March 27) weekly updated UK Album Charts – and thus in front of Depeche Mode’s MEMENTO MORI. Both albums were released on March 24th.
Should the singer consolidate the top spot by next Friday (March 31) and thus beat Depeche Mode in the eagerly watched race for the top spot, her current LP would mark her sixth number one album in just eleven years (BORN TO DIE 2012, ULTRAVIOLENCE 2014, LUST FOR LIFE 2017, NORMAN FUCKING ROCKWELL! 2019, CHEMTRAILS OVER THE COUNTRY CLUB 2021).
For the synth-pop group around Dave Gahan, it will probably still be the best chart and starting position – only after a week will this be counted – since DELTA MACHINE, which was released in 2013, which also reached second place.
The two previously highly anticipated records topped the new release rankings for Fall Out Boys SO MUCH (FOR) STARDUST, Pink Floyd’s 50th Anniversary reissue DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and country singer Luke Combs’ GETTIN’ OLD, completing the top five.
