Before the second weekend of the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, Germany is still in first place in the medal table. It should stay that way after Saturday. In some sports, German athletes have good chances of winning precious metals again.

3:55 a.m.: Snowboard, Cross Mixed
In the individual competition, the German snowboarder Martin Nörl was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Together with Jana Fischer, he is now starting a new attack on the medal ranks in the cross-mixed competition. However, the two are not favored, in contrast to the nations Italy and USA.
8:30 a.m.: Cross-country skiing, women’s relay
Here, too, the German season does not belong to the narrower group of favorites. Germany starts with Katharina Hennig, Katherine Sauerbrey, Victoria Carl and Sofie Krehl. On the distance of 4 x 5 kilometers Norway, Sweden and the Russian Olympic Committee are considered gold contenders.
10 a.m.: Biathlon, men’s sprint
From 10 a.m. in Zhangjiakou, the question of who will succeed Arnd Peiffer will be answered. The current ARD moderator, who is currently suffering from Corona, won the sprint race four years ago in Pyeongchang. This time the German starters are not among the top favourites. Most likely, Benedikt Doll could cause a surprise. Johannes Kühn, Philipp Nawrath and Roman Rees also start for Germany. Sebastian Samuelsson (Sweden), Quentin Fillon Maillet (France) and Johannes Tignes Boe (Norway) are the names of the medal contenders.
12 p.m.: Ski Jumping, Men’s Large Hill
The German ski jumpers have the last chance for an individual medal on Saturday. However, neither DSV star Karl Geiger (12th) nor Markus Eisenbichler (6th) made it to the top in qualifying on Friday. The German athletes don’t really get along with the hill yet. In addition to Geiger and Eisenbichler, Constantin Schmid and Pius Paschke will be starting for Germany. High-flyers Ryoyu Kobayashi (Japan), Halvor Egner Granerud and qualifier Marius Lindvik (both Norway) are favored from the large hill.
1:20 p.m.: Skeleton, one women
Tina Herrmann, Hannah Neise and Jacqueline Lölling start for Germany. Herrmann is one of the favorites alongside Kimberley Bos (Netherlands) and Zhao Dan (China).
