The ‘Sad beige baby‘ took social media by storm in early 2023. The term refers to parents who dress their children in shades of beige, cream, sand, and gray. Even those who go to children’s fashion fairs cannot ignore the muted colors. Some voices therefore question whether the lack of bright colors and prints might not disturb children in their development. FashionUnited asks: Are there any new childrenswear brands on the market that are colorful and full of buter prints?
kidish
Kidish offers children’s clothing with a twist. This twist is not only evident in the playful embroidery that can be found on every garment, but also in the fact that the clothing is dirt and liquid repellent. “Every time we put our little son in a clean white shirt, he was dirty within minutes,” said founder Briëlle Mayberg Halbert at fashion fair CIFF in Denmark. So she decided to design her own clothes that are more durable.
Purchase prices start at 40 euros, retail prices at 108 euros. Kidish currently offers six different models for children as well as matching looks for fathers and mothers. The brand is open for wholesale pre-orders worldwide and has profiles on the Faire, fashionGo and Playtime Marketplace platforms.
Petite ganache
Petite Ganache is a non-seasonal, unisex children’s fashion brand. It relies on simple but colorful design. All prints are designed by the founder and designer Laura Séraphine Lakam herself. She is inspired by her origins – Madagascar and Cameroon – and her multicultural life between Paris, London and Rotterdam. The colorfully printed pants from the Petite Ganache range have another important feature: they are suitable for several sizes. A smaller size has the pant legs rolled up, a larger size has them worn full length. All pants are cut wide and have an elastic waistband.
The Petite Ganache collection includes pants, bags, tank tops, socks and bandanas. The purchase price for a pair of denim trousers is 38 euros, the selling price is 75 euros. A sweater vest costs 35 euros wholesale and 65 euros retail. Petite Ganache is currently sold at Center Commercial Kids in Paris, Cleo and Caesar in Berlin, Our Hood Community in London and YO Store in Portland.
Atelier Pomme
Dutch brand Atelier Pomme is colorful and playful in a completely different way. The two-year-old brand announced earlier this year that it was developing a new signature by collaborating with artists and illustrators. “Atelier Pomme wants art to be more involved in people’s daily lives. It does this by collaborating with artists, illustrators and designers to bring collections to market.”
The brand is already sold in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Australia, Canada, Taiwan and of course the Netherlands. The wholesale prices start at 11.25 euros for a romper with a retail price of 24.90 euros and 40 euros for a jacket which retails for 79.90 euros.
