Belgium: Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Club Brugge resigns

Next veteran stops

After Eden Hazard (32) and Toby Alderweireld (34), Domenico Tedesco will also have to do without goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in his new job as Belgium coach. The 35-year-old also announced his retirement from the national team on Monday. The number one of Club Brugge completed 35 international matches for Belgium, but was only the reserve behind Thibaut Courtois for long stretches.

“Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions. Today is one of those days. After 13 years it’s time to say goodbye to the Red Devils. Pride, honor and gratitude. These three feelings describe my chapter in the national team. To all my teammates, staff and fans: thank you,” said Mignolet.
