German film “Nothing New in the West” has received several awards

Germany can look forward to several Oscars: The War Film “Nothing new in the West” by director Edward Berger entered the race at the Oscars on March 12, 2023 with nine nominations as one of the favorites — and it didn’t disappoint.

All Quiet on the Western Front won the Oscar for Best International Film at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Previously, the film (aka James Friend) also won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

Director Berger in the ROLLING STONE interview

“Nothing New in the West” is the film adaptation of the 1928 war novel of the same name by Romans by Erich Maria Remarques. “The key reason to retell this story was that ‘Im Westen Nothing New’ is a truly German story and book,” director Edward Berger explained in an interview with ROLLING STONE. “Germany has a unique perspective on this issue, having fought two brutal world wars that transformed and shaped the world. With that comes a great responsibility.”
