The renowned think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes that Maria Zakharova, the spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has admitted that there is “discord” among confidants of President Vladimir Putin. She is said to have said this during a conversation with Kremlin-loyal journalists. The spokeswoman is also said to have stated that a “thought police”, such as in the time of dictator Joseph Stalin, would be impossible due to disputes within the Kremlin’s “elites”.
According to the ISW, there have been rumors for some time about “deteriorating dynamics” within the Russian regime and that Putin is losing control of communications. According to the think tank, the Russian leader would also be unable to regain control of “the Russian information space”.
However, Zakharova denies that she would have made the statements, she writes on Telegram. According to her, this is “the umpteenth information attack” against her.
