Willis’ health condition was reported publicly last month. The man has been diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia, or FTD. The disease is challenging to recognize, because its first symptoms are difficulties with planned activities, changes in personality and behavior, and psychological symptoms. Memory problems are usually minor in the early stages of the disease.

In his update, Heming says that he plans to change the five minutes of publicity he received into ten minutes, during which he wants to raise awareness about the insidious disease. Heming has received criticism for having fished for visibility with her husband’s illness. In his Instagram update, Heming says that criticism is good, because it’s a sign that someone is listening.

– I will take my five minutes and turn it into ten, because I will always speak for my husband. I want to raise awareness about memory disorders and FTD and about caregivers who are heroes, Heming says in his publication.

Heming, who worked as a model, says that he harnesses sadness and anger for a good purpose. The couple has two children together.

It is not the first time that Heming uses his social media as a message platform. He previously posted a message to cameramen and reporters who shout the movie star’s name in public in hopes of photos and comments. It can be challenging for a person with dementia to act even in ordinary situations.
