On Thursday, the police placed a pole with two cameras in the Kalsdonk district of Roosendaal, where shots were fired in broad daylight last week. The cameras will remain in place for a month. In addition, enforcers from the municipality and the police patrol the neighborhood more often and the community police officer sets up several consultation hours.
The municipality and police are taking these measures, after the shooting in Philipslaan last Friday. A 19-year-old man was hit several times in the side just before 4:30 a.m., but was not seriously injured. The shooter escaped.
Criticism of the municipality was heard from the neighborhood after the explosion of violence. “The council has let us down. That hurts, I could cry about it,” said Sjef Boshouwers (75). He was chairman of the residents’ platform in the Roosendaal district of Kalsdonk for many years. He sees with sorrow how ‘his district’ continues to slide down.
‘Enough is enough’
A meeting was therefore organized by the municipality of Roosendaal on Tuesday evening. There people could tell their story and talk to agents. Mayor Han van Midden indicated that he was fed up with the nuisance and crime in the Kalsdonk district. “The measure is full,” said the mayor. Although he does not immediately have a solution: “More blue on the street will be difficult.”
On Wednesday, the police announced that they know who the fugitive shooter is. It concerns a 32-year-old man from Breda, originally from Roosendaal. It’s just unclear where he lives. That is why the police are hoping for tips from the public to find out his whereabouts. A photo of him has been circulated with the call to report.
Wild West scenes
Several people were involved in the argument, which degenerated into Wild West scenes. A local resident who saw it all happen: “Men were running around and shots were fired. Bats and bricks were also used. It was really intense.” The gunman fled in a black car, police said. The victim’s damaged car was left on the road.
