Club leaves Europe with a ball wash (5-1)
Club Brugge mainly hoped to be able to refuel some confidence in Lisbon after the 3-0 at Ostend in its own competition. Blauw-zwart was able to hold out for 30 minutes against the Portuguese steamroller and that was actually remarkable in itself, because Joao Mario’s opening goal was already rejected after a minute and a half. After that first half hour, things suddenly went fast. Before the break, Mignolet had to turn around twice: Rafa Silva with a great goal and Ramos with a walk through the visiting defense.
Beating
After the break, Parker had already substituted Noa Lang. The Dutchman no longer had to experience Club’s swan song in the champions ball on the field. Benfica was truly lord and master. Ramos with his second, Joao Mario from the spot after a foul by Sylla and Neres (just not offside) completed the forfeit score.
Meijer scores the honor saver
Yet there was still a bright spot for Club Brugge. Bjorn Mijer took care of that. With a wonderful bang in the cross he recorded the 5-1 final score.
