There is female power here: Nina Petersen (43) and Sophia Hoffmann (42) opened the “Happa” restaurant in Kreuzberg at the end of last year. In a team of five: only women!

“Many jobs in the catering industry are still male-dominated and sexist. We want to help make this industry more inclusive, family-friendly, diverse and equal, because social sustainability is just as important to us as sustainability on the plate,” says Hoffmann to BZ

The opening hours of the restaurant are intended to enable employees to have a private and family life. That’s why the kitchen stays cold at the weekend!

The restaurant also uses ingredients from sustainable cultivation and above all vegan! Meat or animal products are not served here. Instead: soup made from kohlrabi shells, patties from stale
Bread and even chocolate tart made from rescued Santas!

When cooking, as little as possible should be thrown away. “In gastronomy, more than a third of the prepared food still ends up in the garbage. That’s why we rely on a circular economy concept and process everything that can be processed,” says Petersen. “Happa” has also been certified organic since January.
