The change of coach from André Breitenreiter to Pellegrino Matarazzo has not brought about a turnaround at TSG Hoffenheim. Even under the 45-year-old, the Kraichgauer remained without points four times, the winning streak has now grown to 14 games. Before Matarazzo, another name was brought into play early on at TSG at the highest level.
Matarazzo now at TSG: The Bundesliga coaches by tenure
Again “table football” reported, the advisor Roger Wittmann from the “Rogon” agency, who is closely associated with majority shareholder Dietmar Hopp, wanted to place his protégé Kenan Kocak at TSG. However, all those responsible at Hopp are said to have spoken out against Kocak and among the candidates advocated Matarazzo’s commitment.
Kocak has been working as an assistant coach alongside Stefan Kuntz in the Turkish national team since September 2021. The 42-year-old was previously the head coach of Hannover 96 and SV Sandhausen in the 2nd Bundesliga. TSG would have been Kocak’s first coaching position in the German upper house.
The connections between Hopp and his friend Wittmann have always been an issue in the Hoffenheim environment. Numerous players from the “Rogon” agency found their way to TSG, with Stanley Nsoki (23), John Anthony Brooks (30), Umut Tohumcu (18) and Fisnik Asllani (20) there are currently four protégés in the Kraichgau squad. There is another “Rogon” quintet in the TSG reserve.
