Third division football club VfB Oldenburg has reacted to the sporting misery and put coach Dario Fossi on leave. For the time being, his assistant Frank Löning will take care of the team.
“We are in a very difficult sporting situation, haven’t won in seven games and see it as our duty to do everything we can to keep up the class,” said sporting director Sebastian Schachten a few hours after the second: 3 loss to Duisburg . According to the club’s announcement on Sunday evening, the supervisory board, board and management are “very grateful to Dario Fossi” – VfB’s return to professional football last summer is closely linked to his name.
That’s why the decision was “very difficult” for everyone involved. However, those responsible had lost faith in the heroes of ascent. Unexpectedly, Fossi can now fully concentrate on acquiring the professional trainer license from the DFB. The 41-year-old started training at the beginning of the new year.
Change in the coaching position “necessary”
The Oldenburg suffered their fourth defeat in a row on Sunday with a 2:3 win against Duisburg. The last win to date was on January 13th, when VfB won 1-0 at table neighbors FSV Zwickau – the VfB world was still fine then. In the meantime, however, the Lower Saxony have fallen back to the penultimate place in the table. Only local rivals SV Meppen are worse off: The Emslanders announced the separation from their head coach, Stefan Krämer, on Saturday.
