Bridget Maasland contributes to the buzz around Today Inside. The presenter thinks that the stars of the program can cash in much more. “They are the bright spot of SBS 6.”
The competition between RTL and Talpa is once again fierce now that the mega merger has been rejected in TV land. RTL is the dominant party and can bring the competitor to its knees relatively easily. For that only one move is needed: bringing back the men of Today Inside. They single-handedly keep Talpa’s flagship SBS 6 afloat.
Stars of the sky
Bridget Maasland and her colleagues from RTL Boulevard have one last night long entry dedicated to. “SBS 6 is currently in sack and ashes,” she explains to her viewers. “Whereas in the past everything John de Mol touched turned into gold, things are slightly different now. There is one very big bright spot and that is the men of VI.”
She points to the gentlemen’s strong negotiating position. “Johan Derksen, Wilfred Genee and René van der Gijp could ask the stars from heaven during their new salary negotiations. Just like a number of other presenters who also have nothing to complain about.”
Absurd amounts
Tina Nijkamp, the former broadcaster boss of SBS 6, has calculated that Wilfred, Johan and René are worth a salary of at least 2.5 million euros per person. “These are of course absurd amounts and it would also be unique in Hilversum if television stars received that much, but it is not unique in the media world,” says TV expert Rob Goossens.
Rob points to Edwin Evers’ former mega salary. “He got 4 million because he was very important to Radio 538. SBS 6 actually has a similar situation with those three men. Then I think: yes, these are bizarre figures, but I agree with Tina that they would be well worth it.”
Away from SBS 6?
Radio 538 DJ Coen Swijnenberg thinks that the VI trio is negotiating with a media party other than Talpa. Luuk Ikink wonders with whom: “What could they do, for example? They seem to be in some sort of negotiation now. They can of course stay with SBS, but what else?”
RTL is an obvious choice, but says Rob: “They could start their own business, for example. They could launch their own streaming service and I’m sure a lot of people would be willing to pay 5 euros a month to give those three men their independence.”
“SBS runs on this!”
Bridget thinks that John de Mol simply cannot let the gentlemen go. “Isn’t SBS running on this? They can’t do without it, can they?”
Reporter Aran Bade: “I think 2.5 million is a lot, but they are worth more than what they earn now. I think John can expect tough negotiations.”
Rob: “SBS 6 depends on the Meilandjes and the VI men. Then you have to pay for those people and take it away from the so-called A stars, who have simply failed en masse in the past four years.”
Tina to RTL?
Finally, Luuk, who has been appearing in every program and every podcast lately: “I think it would be really nice if Tina came to work here at RTL with a hole in her hand. It appeals to me.”
