If there were elections for the Provincial Council today, the BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) would win six seats in one fell swoop. This is according to an opinion poll by market research firm Ipsos. But what does the BBB voter want and what does the party want? When it comes to asylum seekers, status holders and labor migrants, the views differ widely.
This is evident from the answers of the people of Brabant who indicate on the Kieskompas website that they intend to vote BBB on 15 March.
More than 36,000 people from Brabant have completed this voting guide for the Provincial Council elections in the past two weeks. The answers give a good picture of what voters expect from politicians, for example the people who indicate that they will vote BBB.
When it comes to nitrogen, the voters and the party are pretty close. They also completely agree about public transport in the villages. But when it comes to asylum seekers, status holders and labor migrants, the differences between the Brabant branch of BBB and the voter are strikingly large.
Asylum seekers and migrant workers
For example, BBB believes that ‘many more homes for labor migrants’ should be built in Brabant. Only 9 percent of the people who say they’re going to vote BBB think that’s a good idea. Three-quarters are against, the rest have no opinion.
What about asylum seekers centers? ‘The province must oppose the arrival of additional asylum seekers centers’ is one of the statements. BBB indicates that she disagrees. This is only 9 percent of voters who say they will vote BBB. 78 percent think resistance to asylum seekers’ centers is good. Striking detail: in most other provinces, BBB, just like these people, is against extra shelters.
There are also major differences between voters and party positions when it comes to status holders. BBB Brabant thinks it is wise if the province intervenes when a municipality has too few residence permit holders. This is only 17 percent among BBB voters.
BBB does not want to cut back on culture. The majority of people who say they are considering voting for BBB want to do so. 21% agree with the party’s position.
Nitrogen
Party and voter agree much more on the subject of nitrogen. Farmers forced to buy out? In return for. Resistance to the national nitrogen policy? For. The question is what remains of those ambitions, because developments are moving fast. On Wednesday, the province announced that it would no longer issue permits to projects that cause extra nitrogen emissions in nature reserves.
