Mayor Jack Mikkers of Den Bosch is positive about the opportunities for the carnival in Oeteldonk after the relaxation that the cabinet plans to implement. A final decision on this will be made next week.
On Thursday, Minister Ernst Kuipers sent a letter to the House of Representatives, including the intention to keep cafes open longer. The one and a half meter rule and the fixed seat would also be cancelled. If all this continues, it will be positive for the carnival, although restrictions remain. The party can only be celebrated in the catering establishments and on the terraces. In the public space, for example, there is no amplified music or a range of catering establishments.
“On the basis of this proposal, the relaxation of the cabinet would also make room for carnival. That is very nice. For society, the residents of ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the catering industry. The concern for carnival tourism remains. There is less room to celebrate carnival than in other years. And that would mean that people celebrate carnival in their own municipality, and not have to travel to another one,” the mayor of Bossche said.
Whether the relaxation will really continue depends on the advice of the OMT and the course of the infection figures.
