In Moscow, the body of the first electric river tram was assembled. It is expected that in 2022 already nine such vessels will carry passengers, said the capital’s Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development.
“We will test: we will check the course in cold weather, set up the equipment and start working on interior details,” the department said.
The first ship of this kind will be named Sinichka, chosen by the Muscovites. It can carry up to 50 people. It is expected that in two years the number of such trams will increase to 21.
This year the ships will carry passengers on two routes: “Fili – Kievsky railway station” and “Pechatniki – Avtozavodsky bridge”.
“Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin instructed the development of environmentally friendly modes of transport, so we immediately decided that river buses would be electric,” the department’s head of transport Maxim Liksutov was quoted as saying in the department’s Telegram. “In addition, ships will operate all year round, so passengers will be able to choose more fast route along the river even in winter.”
Water transport is developing in the capital: in August 2021, from Tushin to the other side of the Moskva River, to the Northern River Port, started sailing.
