National Lottery lowers weekly deposit limit from 300 to 200 euros | Interior

The National Lottery has lowered the weekly deposit limit for online gambling from 300 to 200 euros. The Belang van Limburg reports this on Wednesday and the National Lottery confirms the news. The deposit limit is the maximum weekly amount that someone can transfer to his playing account.

“This measure fits in with our mission to play responsibly,” says Joke Vermoere, spokesperson for the National Lottery. “Although 99.9 percent of our 1.4 million players will not even notice this limitation. Most people do not deposit weekly, but spend a while with 10 or 20 euros. With the deposit limit, we mainly want to offer a safe framework and people with better protect a gambling addiction.”

In addition to a maximum number of games and a maximum loss, the deposit limit is therefore an additional restriction to prevent problematic gambling. “However, the vast majority of players never reach such a ceiling,” Vermoere assures.

The weekly playing limit of 200 euros has been in effect for online games of chance since October 20 last year. Except for sports betting, the online gambling of the National Lottery was not covered by that law. “This has to do with the legal framework and the principle of proportionality: the greater the risk of addiction, the stricter the legislation for it,” the spokesperson clarifies.

“The dynamics of other gambling websites are different and more addictive,” says Vermoere. “They encourage the players to play more often and more, for example by reinvesting their winnings. With the National Lottery, everything is based on chance and winnings and losses are predetermined, also online. For example, we cannot capitalize on winnings to encourage people to In addition, we have been publishing lottery games for decades and only recently have there been major addiction problems.”
