Newly-fangled trainer Dave Vos sees Young Ajax powerless: “Lots of ball possession, no chances”

Jong Ajax was unable to hurt a moderate Willem II tonight, especially in the second half. Dave Vos’ team seemed to have the Tilburgers in the ropes, but the knockout failed to materialize and so Jong Ajax went down 2-1. “We end up forgetting to reward ourselves.”

Last Monday, Young Ajax won against MVV at the debut of Dave Vos, but on a visit to Brabant, the team from Amsterdam lacked punch. “A disappointing feeling. We were very good with the ball, but we could not convert it into goal attempts and opportunities. That is a great shame. We have sold ourselves short,” said Vos after the game.

Tough duel

Defender Tristan Gooijer had his hands full with Willem II’s technically skilled attackers. “Our coach Dave Vos had prepared us well for this game. He is a very tactical trainer. We have seen a lot of images of the opponent.”

At 2-0, Jong Ajax’s defense did not look good and Willem II was able to benefit from a quick counter. “I was already through as a back. The rule is that if one back is through, the other stays in the back. The remaining defense was not good for that goal,” says 18-year-old Gooijer.
