Madeleine McCann disappeared in 2007 shortly before her fourth birthday from a holiday home rented by her parents in Praia da Luz, Portugal. In the nearly 16 years since her disappearance, numerous theories have been floated about the girl’s fate.
That insecurity has allowed several people over the years to claim to be Madeleine McCann, but those claims have generally led to little or nothing. Also Julia Wendel claimed that his would be Madeleine.
But according to the Polish police, Julia’s story is not correct. “The investigation contradicts the version of the story presented by the woman,” police told the Polish newspaper Gazeta.pl .
The girl’s family also denies the story. In a statement in the Polish Facebook group ‘Zaginieni przed laty’, in which stories of missing people are shared, the family says that Julia is their “daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece and stepdaughter”.

Julia also owns these photos, as she brought them from the family home along with her birth certificate, as well as numerous reports from hospitals,” the family writes. “We always tried to understand all the situations that happened with Julia. Countless therapies, medicines, psychologists and psychiatrists. She was not left alone. Threats from Julia to us, her lies and manipulations. Activities on the Internet. We’ve all seen it, and we’ve tried to prevent it, to explain it, we’ve asked her to stop.”
The family explains that they have always tried to help the young woman recover, but Julia is of age. She moved out of the house and refuses further treatment, the family says.
