‘Bastard who attacked the goalkeeper worse than elimination,’ say Willy and René

Club icons Willy and René van de Kerkhof saw the elimination of PSV against Sevilla coming. They find it much worse that just before time a supporter ran onto the field and attacked the goalkeeper of Sevilla. “Such a smooth janus spoils it for everyone,” says Willy. The brothers hold their breath for a penalty from UEFA. “If you are unlucky you will even be banned for a year.”

“What an asshole”, is the very first thing Willy says when he enters the PSV stadium for the recording of the new Willy and Rene Podcast from Omroep Brabant. “And then he also had a stadium ban,” adds René. “Fortunately, that keeper was very strong, he had it lying on the ground in no time. We may be lucky with that.”

The fan in question will probably receive a heavy punishment, but PSV can also send him on to the brothers. “Then we’ll tie him up,” says Willy.

Meanwhile, René wonders how it is possible that this man was able to enter the field. “Those stewards aren’t there for nothing, are they?” But his brother understands that. “Something like this happens in a split seconds. And that fence is not that high. But now he’s ruining it for his friends too. Because maybe there will be higher fences now. And we just have to wait and see what the consequences will be for PSV.”

“Legs were already open anyway.”

The brothers did not warm up to the match itself either. “We only played 15 minutes reasonably twice, otherwise it was nothing at all,” says Willy. “It is that Luuk taps that ball through the keeper’s legs because they were already open,” says René. “Then they suddenly start playing football, but they should have done that from the start!”

Next Sunday, PSV will meet another old club of the brothers: FC Twente. In the podcast this week you will also hear how they ended up in Enschede as two very young Helmonders and that René can even talk a little Tukkers…
