“TV flop Buddy Vedder in trash!”

Luuk Ikink urgently advises his employer RTL 4 to throw away Buddy Vedder’s new TV program before broadcast. “You can also think: you know what, we’re not doing it.”

Together with a Flemish lady, Buddy Vedder has made a music program that is currently already on channel with our southern neighbours, but is only scheduled for the summer on RTL 4. This show, entitled Tulips from Antwerp, is such a monstrosity that the Flemish viewers and press are downright shocked.

Not a strong show

Critics think that RTL 4 would do better to throw this show away unseen. What does RTL Boulevard star Rob Goossens think of it? He says in The BLVD Podcast: “I like the idea, but if you see it – we can’t see it here yet, but if you change your IP address, you can watch in Belgium – then it’s not a very strong program.”

Rob finds it strange at all that a show of which winners and losers are already on the street is broadcast with so much delay. “What makes it extra crazy: RTL is not broadcasting it yet, while it is also a competition. Which means that it is already clear who wins and who loses.”

Bad reviews

Colleague Luuk Ikink thinks that RTL should think again. “No one has that… Because I did indeed read all kinds of reviews from Belgian television. That’s pretty much written into it. And also a pity for Buddy, but he didn’t really come out well.”

He continues: “Why would you broadcast another competition whose results will be known in a moment?”

Rob: “Yes, and which you already know that the viewer is probably not going to like anyway.”

Afternoon television

Luke thinks it’s hopeless. “Yes, because RTL wanted to edit it extra or re-edit it or something, they didn’t think it was good enough either. I think, if it is broadcast, it will be put away somewhere in the summer.”

Rob: “Yes at noon on Saturday.”

Luuk: “Yes, that, or as a kind of filler somewhere or something, because that will of course no longer be a big program on Friday evening. That is not possible.”

Rob: “No, I think so too. And I must say, the least used device in Hilversum is the shredder. While it really could be used more often. This seems like a good case to me.”

“Protect Buddy!”

Buddy also needs to be protected against himself, says Rob. “Of course, you go into it with the best intentions. I really like the idea. But if it’s not good enough, then you’re not doing the viewer any favors. And Buddy Vedder is of course just important for RTL. You can see how much they want to make him the star of the future.”

Luuk: “Why would you necessarily want to broadcast some sort of imminent flop of his? You can also think: you know what, we just don’t do it. Then no one has seen it here in the Netherlands. And then we don’t talk about it anymore.”
