St. Paulis Burgstaller – symbol of the upswing
It makes sense to define Guido Burgstaller’s value for FC St. Pauli in terms of statistics: This season, Burgstaller has scored 15 goals and prepared five goals in 21 league games. He scored the important 1-0 for St. Pauli seven times. But statistics don’t tell the whole story.
It’s worth watching Burgstaller even if he’s not the center of attention because he’s scored. Coach Timo Schultz was also impressed by the way Burgstaller approaches and approaches the opponent, how he curses, motivates and throws himself into every duel. He says about his goalscorer: “The charisma he has on his team-mates, but also on the opponents, is extremely important for us.”
Bremen and coach Werner – memories of Rehhagel
These are pleasant days for everyone who supports Werder Bremen. Werder has won the last six league games, scored 20 goals and climbed to third place in the relegation team. It’s an achievement closely associated with the coach’s name. Ole Werner has been in office since the end of November and Bremen have won every league game since then.
Many a Werder fan will therefore remember the 1980/81 season and Otto Rehhagel. In March 1981, Rehhagel took over as coach in Bremen and immediately won the first eight games. In the end, Werder became second division champions and rose.
Goal scorer Glatzel – Hamburg’s surrealist
Hamburg striker Robert Glatzel scored four goals against Darmstadt last weekend, three after just thirteen minutes. He grabbed the ball, of course he did. Because the HSV striker not only scored four of the five goals against Darmstadt, but also one of the fastest hat-tricks in the history of the second division. Bald to this: “It’s all a bit surreal.”
On the other hand, the chances of promotion for Hamburger SV, which has not lost five league games and is only two points behind leaders Darmstadt, are surprisingly real. The next game could be a decisive one, for Glatzel it is both future and past. Opponents then are tied on points 1. Schalkes Terodde – the life insurance
When FC Schalke signed Simon Terodde before this season, it was a source of excitement and at the same time a signal to the competition. Two people who couldn’t be brought together had found each other: Schalke, still in the Champions League at heart, but only second-rate in terms of sport and the goalscorer in the autumn of his career – always a bit too smart for a second division defender, but in the Bundesliga pushed limits.
The plan worked. After 21 match days, Terodde has scored 15 goals and is now the sole record goalscorer in the 2nd division. When Schalke faltered at the beginning of the season, it was primarily his goals that kept the club dreaming of direct promotion. At Schalke they continue to work on turning a dream into reality – also thanks to the goals from Terodde.
