Skier Strolz takes Olympic gold in combination just like his father

Austrian skier Johannes Strolz caused a big surprise at the Olympics by taking gold in the combination. The 29-year-old Strolz, who has only won a World Cup competition once in his career, trumped Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The Austrian struck in the final slalom and thus follows in the footsteps of his father Hubert, who also took gold in the combination at the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary.

Strolz was in fourth place after the descent, in which Kilde was the fastest. He completed the slalom in 47.56 seconds, more than a second faster than the Norwegian. With a total of 2.31.43, Strolz took the Olympic title, Kilde had to settle for silver in 0.59 seconds. The bronze went to Canadian James Crawford at 0.68.

Four years ago in Pyeongchang the Austrian Marcel Hirscher won the combination.
