Carlos Alcaraz crowns comeback with tournament victory

World number two Carlos Alcaraz immediately secured tournament victory on his comeback on the tour.

After a three-and-a-half-month break due to a thigh muscle injury, the Spanish high-flyer won the final in Buenos Aires against Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-3, 7-5.

Overall, the triumph at the clay court event was the seventh ATP title of his career for the 19-year-old.

In the duel between the two top seeded players, US Open winner Alcaraz needed around one and a half hours to win.

He had previously said he was happy. “It’s very special for me to go straight back into the final when I return,” said Alcaraz after his semi-final win over his Spanish compatriot Bernabe Zapata Miralles and looked back on his time of suffering: “I was a bit down after the injury. I had to find my confidence and rhythm again.”
