“Israeli missiles targeted sites where Iranian militias and Lebanese Hezbollah were located,” says a Syrian NGO
At least 15 people died on Sunday night as a result of an Israeli missile attack on a neighborhood in the Syrian capital of Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, although the official Syrian news agency SANA reported five dead and 15 injured.
The missiles fell on the Kafar Souseh neighborhood of Damascus and on the town of Dawar al Mazra, about 12 kilometers south of the capital, according to the Observatory, a UK-based NGO and a wide network of collaborators on the land, which indicated that “Israeli missiles targeted sites where Iranian militias and “Lebanese” Hezbollah were located.”
In addition, he specified that the attacks caused “fires and explosions at the target locations”which spread in an area between the towns of Sayeda Zainab, ten kilometers south of Damascus, and Diabiya, in the countryside around the Syrian capital.
The missiles destroyed an Iranian school in the Damascus neighborhood of Kafar Sousehanother fell “in the Al Mazraa roundabout, causing the death of a woman” and, in addition, “the Radar battalion was attacked in Tal Masih, in As Suwayda”, southwest of the Syrian capital, according to the Observatory.
This Israeli attack is the second during the year 2023 and took place “exactly at 00:22 in the morning today, when the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression with missile bursts from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan”reported the Syrian news agency SANA, citing a military source.
According to this same source, the objectives were “residential neighborhoods inhabited by civilians”, which ended with “the destruction of several civilian homes and material damage in various neighborhoods in and around Damascus.”
He also indicated that the “air defenses intercepted the aggression missiles and shot down most of them”, although “the aggression led to the death of five martyrs, including a soldier, and the injury of 15 civilians, including critical cases,” SANA published.
The first Israeli attack of 2023 against Syria occurred on January 2, when seven people lost their lives at Damasc International Airportand its surroundings, the Observatory said.
The same NGO registered, during the past year 2022, 32 Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, either with missiles or airborne, which resulted in the destruction of around 91 targets, including buildings, arms and ammunition depots, headquarters, centers and mechanisms.
These attacks caused the death of 89 soldiersIn addition, another 121 were injured.
