Formula 1: Jenson Button expects World Cup “fight”

All ten Formula 1 teams have now presented their cars for the upcoming season. Time for Jenson Button to make a first conclusion: Who has the most beautiful car? And which teams will compete for the title in 2023? The 2009 world champion and today’s TV expert has a clear tendency on both questions.

Jenson Button has spent the last two weeks in front of the screen and followed all the presentations of the new Formula 1 cars from AlphaTauri, Aston Martin, Williams and Co. very closely. From these observations, the British ex-driver has already identified several favorites for the title in the 2023 season.

At “Sky Sports” Button emphasized that he believes in a three-way battle for the World Cup crown. Accordingly, the reigning world champion Red Bull as well as last year’s pursuer Ferrari and Mercedes will fight for race victories.

“I’m looking forward to this fight. We all hope that there will be three teams that are in the thick of it, right?” said Button.

“We were the only ones who haven’t been able to take a really realistic look at the Red Bull car,” said the former F1 driver about the launch of the Austrian racing team, which took place in the USA and where mainly rendered images of the RB19 were shown .

Formula 1: “Red Bull always has a good car”

Only one RB18 from 2022 with a new livery could really be seen. “That was obviously the car from last year,” explained Button, but added: “But Red Bull always has a good car. I think they will be competitive again,” said the Brit.

The new Ferrari – called SF-23 – is visually “great” from Button’s point of view. The Scuderia apparently “worked on areas where they had weaknesses and they took some risks in other areas. The car looks good,” said the 43-year-old.

But Button liked the new Mercedes best. The W14 is “beautiful”. “When it comes to evaluating the most beautiful car, I would clearly tend towards Mercedes,” explained Button, who at the same time was surprised that the German racing team had not changed the side boxes and that they are still very flat. “They seem to believe that this style works,” said the 43-year-old.
