Review: Inhaler :: Cuts & Bruises

It’s not always easy being a child of your own parents. If you continue to run the bakery or the restaurant, it is still considered a tradition. But alas, one dares to follow them into competitive sports or even into the music industry. Few manage to step out of the shadows. Bono’s offspring Elijah Hewson hasn’t managed to do this with Inhaler’s first work IT WON’T ALWAYS BE LIKE THIS. How should a single album stink against a career of U2 caliber spanning decades? But together with his band he fought bravely, even reaching the top of the charts in the UK and Ireland.

CUTS & BRUISES seamlessly follows the sound of the debut, only changes a little. The conservative alternative rock songs feature a mix of The Killers, The Strokes and lots of U2. The latter reveal themselves at the latest in his voice and the refrains that dazzle entire stadium occupations, as in “These Are The Days”.

Songs like “If You’re Gonna Break My Heart” show that little Elijah probably sat on his daddy’s lap in the studio too often. This also works in a second round, but the overly well-behaved inhalers often lack their own perspective. There may be another surprise waiting in the future. As long as there are eleven variations of “Beautiful Day”.
