SC Paderborn wins against 1. FC Kaiserslautern

After a hard-fought victory in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga, SC Paderborn can continue to dream of promotion. Coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team beat 1. FC Kaiserslautern 1-0 (0-0) and, at least for the time being, pushed 1. FC Heidenheim from third place in the table. For the climber from the Palatinate, the second defeat in a row meant a setback.

Jannis Heuer (78th) redeemed Paderborn with a strong free kick. Kaiserslautern had previously just missed the 1-0 – Terrence Boyd (68th) only hit the crossbar in a counterattack with a tackle.

Eintracht Braunschweig, on the other hand, is slipping deeper and deeper into the relegation battle. The Lower Saxony lost 2:3 (0:2) against Holstein Kiel and could fall back to a relegation zone after just one win in the last nine games at the weekend. The advantage over the relegation rank is only one point.

Fabian Reese (14th), Holmbert Fridjonsson (22nd) and Timo Becker (48th) secured the Kiel team their first second division win in Braunschweig with their goals. After two defeats in a row, the storks maintained their place in the front middle of the table. Substitute Maurice Multhaup (57th) and Danilo Wiebe (69th) shortened.

In Paderborn, the two top teams fought a hard-fought duel in which the SCP quickly created the first big chance: Julian Justvan (9th) failed but failed to Andreas Luthe in the goal of the guests, on the other hand Nicolai Rapp (37th) pulled out of the Distance.

Paderborn had more possession and pushed for the opening goal, FCK countered vehemently. The guests remained dangerous on the counterattack – but then Heuer’s free kick hit an untenable one.
