The planned change in leadership at Twitter is a long time coming.

He thinks the end of 2023 is a good time, said Elon Musk, head of the short message service, in a speech at the World Government Summit on Wednesday. “I think I have to stabilize the company and make sure that it’s financially healthy and that the product roadmap is clearly defined.” So far, there are no candidates for the executive chair.

In a vote among Twitter users at the end of last year, the majority of participants voted in favor of Musk giving up the post.

Among other things, the billionaire manages the electric car manufacturer Tesla. “I will step down as CEO as soon as I find someone stupid enough to do the job,” he tweeted afterwards. “After that, I’ll just lead the software and server teams.”

Since taking over Twitter in October 2022, Musk has transformed the short messaging service. He laid off most of the workforce and changed the company’s strategy. In doing so, he alienated many with sometimes erratic decisions. Advertisers then distanced themselves and politicians warned the company to comply with legal requirements.
