Pistorius still claims he mistook Steenkamp for a burglar. The explanation did not go through in court, and the man is still in prison for the murder.

– It was like a meeting room. He was a few steps away and looked completely different. I was quite scared, Barry Steenkamp said for the Daily Mail.
According to the man, Pistorius looked healthy and clean. In 2016, a different-looking gentleman appeared in court.
– He is a good showman. He knows how to shift gears when needed, Steenkamp evaluates the murderer.
He had asked Pistorius questions, but he had not answered them.
– So I thought that there is no point in me continuing it. I told him, ‘If you deny it, we’re done.’
The father hoped that Pistorius would have admitted to the murder. However, he stuck to his burglary story. According to Steenkamp, Pistorius regretted the shooting, but only because he had been convicted of murder.
– If he had told me the truth, I would have done much better, father lamented.
Steenkamp is sure that Pistorius himself would be better off if he confessed to the murder.
– More people would forgive him. If he admitted that he did it out of anger, he would be a different person today. Now he has to live with this.

“Not just a pretty face”
Steenkamp’s mother June Steenkamp didn’t want to go to the meeting. The woman was afraid that she would hurt Pistorius in her anger. The doctor also advised June to stay away from the event, as it could have caused her more anxiety.
– I don’t want to go to jail for attacking him. It would have been entirely possible. Things haven’t improved. It just gets worse every day when we miss Reeva and she is not here with us, June Steenkamp said.
However, he wrote a letter to Pistorius. In it, the woman opens up about how the runner took away not only their daughter, but also the possibility of grandchildren.
– She was never allowed to wear a wedding dress. He never got to use his law degree, Steenkamp wrote.
– She didn’t just have a beautiful face, she was a smart woman. And you took away from him everything that he could have had and had until now.
The couple has previously stated that they had forgiven Pistorius, but when the man did not admit the murder, the parents changed their minds.
– If he told me the truth, he would be a free man. I would have let him go on parole. But now I wasted my time. he is a murderer. He should stay in prison, Barry Steenkamp decided.
