What is the best induction hob of that size? And which one has the best value for money? The Consumers’ Association responds.
Induction cooking is popular. Logical, because induction offers many advantages. You no longer need gas, the plate heats up and cools quickly and is easy to clean. Induction hobs are available in different widths from about 60 cm to 90 cm.
Please note: if you switch from gas to induction, you usually need an extra power group.
The Consumers’ Association tests induction hobs for cooking and baking, ease of use and energy consumption, among other things. A total of about 110 induction hobs have been tested, which are currently reasonably to readily available.
Among the 38 60 cm wide hobs tested, an AEG model came out as Best in the Test. A hob from IKEA is the Best Buy.
Best in Test: AEG IKB64301XB
This hob from AEG has four cooking zones. Each cooking zone has a boost function that allows you to heat up quickly. The plate is ideal for cooking with four pans at the same time. Even at full power, it can handle these at the same time. There is also enough space for the pans.
He cooks and bakes well. Even if you want to simmer something on a low setting for a longer period of time, it will keep the temperature constant. The controls are in a pleasant place and respond quickly and well. Everything is easy to read.
The hob is available in four different variants (IKB64301XB, IKB64301FB, IKR64301XB and IKB6430SFB), where only the edge differs.
He also has some flaws. For example, he has no flexible zone. With a flexible zone, you can link multiple zones into one larger zone. If a pan boils dry, it switches off automatically, but that takes a while. Grease stains are also sometimes difficult to brush away.
Best Buy: IKEA MATMÄSSIG (104.670.93)
This hob from IKEA, like the Best in the Test, also has four cooking zones. The hob is simple in design. A boost function is on two of the four zones.
The plate offers enough space for the simultaneous use of four pans, but it is not as powerful as the Best in Test. The power is noticeably lower if you use all zones at the same time.
With this hob you can bake and cook well. Simmering on a low power also works well. The controls respond well and are easy to read. The hob is also easy to clean.
Just like the Best in the Test, the hob from IKEA also has some drawbacks. As already mentioned, it is not very powerful. You will notice this especially if you use all four cooking zones at the same time. The operation works with plus and minus keys. You therefore have to press a lot to adjust the level. Finally, the fan of the hob makes quite a bit of noise.
Accountability
In this section we write weekly about household and technological appliances that have been tested by the Consumers’ Association. This is a collaboration between the independent editors of this site and the Consumers’ Association.
The Consumers’ Association tests thousands of products every year, together with qualified technicians in specialized laboratories in the Netherlands and abroad. The products that are tested are bought in the store, so that they are not pre-manipulated by manufacturers.
New models are tested as soon as possible after introduction. How fast that is varies per product. The Best of the Test is the product with the best test judgment, which is readily available. This can also be an older model, because a newer model is not always better. The Best Buy is the product with the best value for money.
The stated price of a product is the lowest retail price at the moment as far as known by the Consumers’ Association. But prices can vary from day to day. If no recent retail price is known, the target price is quoted.
