Princess Amalia hatred gets stage from NOS: ‘This is really sickening’

The hate messages that Princess Amalia receives because of her stature are given a stage by the NOS. Unbelievable, says Telegraaf columnist Nausicaa Marbe. “This is really just sickening.”

Princess Amalia has been plagued by body shaming for years. There are many reactions on the internet in which the crown princess is judged on her weight. The NOS has made an item about this for the young Instagramtarget group and consciously chooses to portray some hate reactions.

“It’s sick!”

Incredibly bad, says Telegraaf columnist Nausicaa Marbe. “What inspires the NOS? They make an item about Amalia’s body shaming with hate messages she received on NOS’ Insta. Nauseous, that’s how you reward trolls. Normally I wouldn’t post this, but here the NOS is fishing for sensation at the expense of Amalia.

Her follower Roel fully agrees. “It’s easy ‘journalism’. A hip subject, some content from the internet and you’re done. NOS has had a hand in that lately. Also see all American items.”

“Leave that girl!”

Uric jumps into the breach for Amalia on the NOS Insta. “Leave that child. If this is her DNA, this is it. If she likes good food, that’s it. Can’t study normally, get ridiculed on the socials and then you’re not even an adult yet. I don’t care much for the royal family, but show some respect. The response is downright disrespectful.”

However, Martijn thinks the criticism of Amalia is justified. “It may be mean, but being overweight is still bad for your health.”

‘Amalia is fat’

The NOS lets anti-body shaming activist Vera Camilla speak in the conscious video. “When someone comes into the picture, certainly with an exemplary function, especially someone like Amalia, and there are so many comments about her weight, yes, I can well imagine that it makes you uncomfortable as a fat person,” she says.

Vera also calls Amalia fat. “She’s fat, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve respect, and her story shouldn’t be heard. I especially hope that Amalia does not care about the reactions.”

‘This is going too far’

Monique finds it scandalous that Vera describes the princess so plainly as ‘fat’. “That Vera uses the word fat for herself and wants to normalize it in society, good for her! Nice message. But to put that label on someone else so thoughtlessly (…) is, in my opinion, really a few steps too far.”

She has three reasons for this: “Unfortunately, the negative stigma has not completely disappeared, this young woman serves a very public function that she did not ask for and she has already received a huge amount of negativity. Amalia is not fat. It is also NOS Stories’ responsibility not to give a platform to that statement.”
