Injured against Sandhausen
Second division team Fortuna Düsseldorf will have to do without their top scorer and record signing Dawid Kownacki for the time being. The 25-year-old Pole tore a muscle fiber in his thigh in the game against SV Sandhausen (2-0) on Sunday, where he had to be replaced after 18 minutes. He is not available “until further notice”, as Fortuna announced on Monday.
Kownacki has scored eight league goals and six assists so far this season, leading the team’s goalscoring charts ahead of Rouwen Hennings and Shinta Appelkamp, who have five goals each. There were also two goals in the DFB Cup, where the Rhinelanders failed on penalties in the round of 16 at 1. FC Nürnberg last week. Due to his best performances since his EUR 8m move to Düsseldorf, including a loan fee, Kownacki was linked in the TM rumor mill in the January transfer window to FC Midtjylland, Slavia Prague, PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Mönchengladbach, among others.
