Boots on
The death of the beloved singer touched many Finns. The fact that the death came completely unexpectedly added to the shock.
– Olli was fine with his life. This is a shock to everyone. There was no indication of this, Yö band manager Taija Holm told Iltalehte.
Lindholm left almost with his boots on, in good shape. Even on his last evening, he had visited a familiar sauna at the Kaupinoja winter swimming spot in Tampere.
Just over a week before his death, Lindholm appeared tanned and happy in front of the media at the Emma gala. The man had just returned from the Canary Islands.
– We played a little bit there, I took some punts, but mainly I walked. I only took it at half power, it was really good. A lot of walking, Lindholm described the balance of the trip to Iltalehte.
– You have to keep yourself in shape, it’s harder to be! he added.

However, the tremendous rise of the night career and the pressures of family life with children at the time made Lindholm grab the bottle.
– I had to be a family man and a husband and a rock star. It didn’t match the whole. I drove myself into such a tight corner that there was no other choice but to be out of patterns for a few days. In Kännsi, Lindholm told Iltalehte in the spring of 2017.
Lindholm gave up alcohol for good in 2000.
Night’s almost 40-year journey had ups and downs. Sometimes the door to the band room was ajar and the members changed. Lindholm gave the band a face and in the end was also the last original member of the band.
Public image
The writer Arno Kotro wrote a biography of Lindholm Olli – a one-man variety show in 2017.
The men met through the book project. Kotro has said that he knew Lindholm as an open-minded and self-deprecating person. In his opinion, Lindholm’s public image did not correspond to a real man.
– Publicity narrows a person’s personality. To me, Olli appeared to be quite reflective, open-minded and ready to speak. At the same time, he had sensitivity and sentimentality. Those sides were not necessarily shown in public, Kotro said.

Lindholm’s interpretations have always garnered praise and the evergreens have remained forever in life.
Lindholm’s longtime friend, ice hockey coach Karri Kivi know why:
– You can’t perform and you can’t sing such great songs if you don’t go to the bottom. Petvataväll ice and similar songs are born from the fact that you’ve really been pissed, Kivi analyzed in an interview with Iltalehti in 2021.
– That’s why Yö’s songs are melancholic, when Olli was really gloomy. They’re not a bunch of fluff. When you know the stories behind the songs, they hit home. The songs are Olli’s own experiences.
Lindholm’s friends have said that the singer kept in close contact with them. Kivi wondered how Lindholm knew how to help others but easily fell into melancholy with his own affairs.
– He probably didn’t realize how popular he was, Kivi estimated.
