The acute shortage of workers due to the omikron wave sharpens the structural tightness in the labor market. We are especially short of hands in healthcare, the technological sector and construction. Germany is tackling the problem with labor migration: on an annual basis, they want to attract 400,000 skilled labor migrants. Undocumented migrants who have resided there for five years are given a year to look for work or follow training that leads to a shortage occupation. Should we also go down that path?
