During a conversation with journalists, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov commented on the words of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, who called Russia and China authoritarian states.
According to Peskov, the Kremlin categorically disagrees with such assessments and notes that The European Union has no right give similar characteristics to the political systems of other countries, “Interfax”.
“We do not think that the European Union has the right to make such assessments of the Russian Federation or the People’s Republic of China,” he continued.
Earlier, Borrell noted in his speech that the statement of the heads of Russia and China Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping following their talks on February 4 “may lead to the creation of a strong alliance between the two authoritarian regimes.”
Russia and China are “large sovereign countries with their own political system and their own state structure,” Peskov stressed.
“We respect the structure of other states and do not interfere in internal affairs and consider ourselves entitled to count on the same respect for us. Such statements do not fit into such logic,” he added.
