Sony wants to continue the horror film series around the film “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. The relaunch will feature the original cast. There are talks that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. slip back into their roles, Deadline reported. The project is already in an early development phase. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct and Leah McKendrick will write the script.
The new film should build on the success of the current “Scream” part, which was released in cinemas in 2022. They hope to “attract old-school fans while also bringing in new faces to revitalize the series.” The franchise will not be restarted, much more the new plans are a “passing on of the torch” from the old cast to a new cast.
Sony has not yet officially commented on the project. Details about the plot of the new film have not yet been released. I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in 1997, riding a new wave of slasher films made after the (surprise) success of Wes Craven’s Scream. The film is about four friends who cover up a fatal accident. A year later, the young people are being followed and threatened by a stranger with a hand hook. The story was continued in 1998 and 2006.
