Eintracht Braunschweig has put a damper on 1. FC Heidenheim after four wins in a row. Eintracht survived the storming run of the promotion aspirants in the final phase and with the 2-0 (0-0) scored three important points in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga.
That was a setback for 1. FC Heidenheim: The Baden-Württemberg team lost surprisingly at Eintracht Braunschweig and lost valuable ground to leaders Darmstadt 98 and Zweite Hamburger SV.
Heidenheim’s streak of four wins ends
Manuel Wintzheimer (72nd minute) and Lion Lauberbach (90th) scored the goals in front of 16,776 spectators for Lower Saxony, who had not won six games. Heidenheim still has 36 points on the account. The gap between Heidenheim and Darmstadt is now six points.
Bad surprise: “96” lettering in the center circle
Even before the kick-off, there was a nasty surprise for Lower Saxony. Unknown persons broke into the Eintracht stadium at night and smeared the lawn in the center circle with a large “96”, showing support for Eintracht’s archrival Hannover 96.
However, it was not possible to remove it in time. Next to the center circle, the Braunschweiger wrote: “No thanks!”
“Eintracht Braunschweig had a visitor at the Eintracht Stadium on Saturday night, and a 95+1 lettering was left in the middle circle,” the second division promoted wrote on his homepage: “There was a reaction to the graffiti in the run-up to the duel, the game against 1. FC Heidenheim will be played as usual.”
Although Heidenheim was able to play an optical advantage, the Braunschweig team showed tactical discipline and strong duels. For a long time, there were few great chances to score. Braunschweig’s Jan-Hendrik Marx (40th) had the best shot, hitting the post.
