Eisenbichler: “Then I know that the mail is going off”
“Somehow I didn’t dare to telemark, I didn’t see the line below”said Eisenbichler after his long jump in the second round. “But I am completely satisfied. That is awesome”, cheered the Bavarian in ZDF. With a view to his 35th place shortly before Christmas in Engelberg, Eisenbichler added: “After Engelberg, I trusted what the coaches said. They said I should jump into the jumps with more self-confidence. I can’t conjure that up and had to work it out. Now I’ve worked it out. In the second I now have I noticed that the left ski is there. And then I know that things are going well and where I have to go. “
Geiger loses 26.2 points to Kobayashi
While Eisenbichler was happy about the strong second place, Karl Geiger was deeply disappointed. The top rider in the World Cup had bad luck with a strong tailwind in both rounds. After 130 meters in the first round and eighth place, he was only able to improve slightly to seventh with 127.5 meters in the second jump. Disappointed, he let his arms fall in the spout and waved him away. In the battle for the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament Geiger lost 26.2 points to front runner Kobayashi.
Granerud loses despite catching up
Halvor Egner Granerud, who was second overall on the tour so far, also experienced a major setback. The Norwegian finished the first round after 128.0 meters only in 22. With a new suit he then flew to 140.5 meters in the second round and was able to improve to ninth place. But Granerud lost a lot of 27.0 points on Kobayashi.
Leyhe strong again
After Eisenbichler and Geiger, Stephan Leyhe (128.0 meters / 136.5 meters) also made it into the top 10. Willinger was a strong tenth (+27.5 points).
After 133.0 meters and eleventh place in the first round, Constantin Schmid was unable to confirm his top performance in the final round. Despite the high approach speed, it only came to 125.5 meters and fell to 20th place.
Wellinger glad – friend frustrated
Andreas Wellinger could do something for self-confidence. The Olympic champion, who was eliminated in the qualification in Oberstdorf (December 29, 2021), was a good 22nd with widths of 131.0 meters and 129.0 meters.
Severin Freund was unable to continue his upward trend from Oberstdorf and the Garmisch qualification. With 128.0 and 127.5 meters, he finished the New Year’s jumping only as 28. “It was just not good from the table today. Unfortunately, you have to live with that. Then many, many meters are lost. That was not the start I had hoped for. That needs to be changed in Innsbruck.”said my friend, somewhat frustrated ZDF.
Paschke, Lisso and Hoffmann miss the final
Three Germans missed the second round of the top 30. Pius Paschke had to admit defeat to the young Slovenian Lovro Kos (135.5 meters) in his knockout duel with 127 meters. Justin Lisso (Schmiedefeld) with 121.5 meters and Felix Hoffmann (Suhl) with 116 meters, who had survived the qualification via the so-called national group, also retired early. Paschke was 31st, Lisso 43rd, Hoffmann 46th.
