Coach Pontoni’s first medal for Italy at the cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide in Holland fades away at the photo finish. After 42′ on a very demanding course, the 18-year-old Federica Venturelli from Valtellina gives way to the French Celia Gery in the sprint for third place after a race that was always on the attack. A real pity for Venturelli, who excelled on a very hard track due to the rain and mud and up to the middle of the fourth of the five laps she was third. Part of the effort, part of the Frenchwoman’s comeback, and after a last lap in which the two girls marked each other meter by meter, the decision came in the sprint. The excellent season remains for Venturelli, who rides for the Trinx Factory Team, already in evidence in the World Cup with fifth place in Besancon and sixth in Benidorm. Gold and silver to the Canadian twins Holmgren, 17 years old: the world title to Isabella, second place to Ava. At 13 the men’s under 23 event: to follow the blue Davide Toneatti. Then at 3 pm the elite women’s race with Silvia Persico, third in 2022
