record goalscorer
André-Pierre Gignac stays with the Mexican top club Tigres UANL. The former France international has signed a new contract until 2025 – by which time he would be 39 and ten years at the club. The striker joined Tigres on a free transfer from Olympique Marseille in 2015, for whom he has scored 181 goals in 317 games to date – a club record. With the Auriazules he won the championship four times and the CONCACAF Champions League in 2020.
“Being able to finish my career at Tigres has been my dream since I arrived. I don’t know, there was something you can’t say, something you carry inside and I’m delighted to announce that in 2025 I can complete ten years with this club and end my career here at Tigres. Thanks to the trust of my club, the board and the coaching staff, I have extended my contract for another two years,” Gignac said in an interview withTUDN“.
But Gignac is not 100 percent sure about his decision: “I’m still concentrating on what’s left of my career and maybe I’ll feel good in 2025 and I’ve scored 40 goals in two years and I’ll keep scoring goals , but at the moment it’s ten years at the club and then we’ll see, I’ll have to make a decision in 2025, 39 years… I don’t just want to retire with goals, I want titles, trophies, I want team stuff, I want to be able to celebrate, to celebrate with my team-mates because if I am in this situation today I can assure you that I owe it 70 per cent to you, the team, my team-mates, the coaching staff and the club.”
